Whether you’re planting a few beds or many acres, the right planter makes a difference. Here’s a quick look at common planting types and where each one fits best.

Vacuum Planters

Best for: Versatility & Precision Planting
The Wizard Vacuum Planter is our most precise singulating planter. It uses vacuum pressure to place one seed at a time with exceptional accuracy, making it ideal for oblong or irregular seeds like beans, sunflowers, pumpkins, squash, and corn.
Advantages:

  • Extremely accurate seed spacing and depth
  • Reduces seed waste and thinning labor
  • Available as tractor-mounted or walk-behind
Things to Consider:
  • Higher upfront investment
  • Best suited for crops where precision really matters

Mechanical Seeders

Best for: Scaling beyond hand planting
Mechanical seeders are a cost-effective way to plant a wide range of vegetable and flower seeds quickly and consistently. They’re simple, reliable, and easy to maintain.
Advantages:

  • Easy to use
  • Works with many seed types
  • Available in push-style or tractor-mounted models
Things to Consider:
  • Less precise than vacuum planters
  • Some seed sizes, especially irregular shaped seeds, may not plant accurately

Hand Planting Jab Planters/Transplanters

Best for: Small plantings and plastic mulch systems
Hand planting and transplanting rods punch clean, consistent holes through plastic mulch, making it easier to seed or transplant by hand without tearing plastic.
Advantages:

  • Simple and durable
  • No longer bending over for transplanting
  • Ideal for small-scale production or spot planting
Things to Consider:
  • Labor-intensive
  • Not efficient for larger plantings

High Density Seeders

Best for: Baby leaf greens and dense plantings
High Density Seeders are designed for crops like salad mix, spinach, arugula, and other baby leaf greens where uniform, dense coverage is the goal.
Advantages:

  • Fast and efficient for high-density crops
  • Consistent seed distribution
  • Available in push or tractor-mounted models
Things to Consider:
  • Not intended for singulated crops
