There are two positions: one for moving soil away from the crop row and the other for gently hilling soil into the crop row with precision. In the "cutaway" orientation the bio discs leave an undisturbed band of soil along the crop row with no soil movement into the row - suitable for clearing weeds away from the smallest seedlings. In the "hilling" configuration Bio-discs bring soil back into the row to smother young weed seedlings when the crop is a bit more advanced.
Please note that bio-discs should not be used on stony soils as the results will be irregular. In some situations it can be helpful to remove the flat disc to allow movement of more material without clogging.
